Green ENERGY

ADRA Ethiopia in its project aimed at improving livelihoods and promotion of employment opportunities for disadvantaged young people in the regions of Oromia and Tigray through innovative vocational training in renewable energy, in Oromia and Tigray regions, Ethiopia -Green Energy TVET Project, has significantly contributed to the sector in renewable energy sector. For instance, this project was implemented in 4 model vocational training institutions in Oromia and Tigray Regions, as part of a pilot project. Through the project 2200 skilled disadvantaged young professionals (30% women) have been supported in finding employment and/or in setting up own micro-enterprises. At the institutional level, technical infrastructure was provided to 4 existing vocational colleges and an attempt has been made to develop the capacity of 30 TVET instructors. 30 vocational trainers (TVET instructors) have been trained in renewable energy solar PV system specific (training of trainers – TOT). ADRA Germany and ADRA Ethiopia took the initiative and with the support of concerned government buraus such as Ministry of water and Energy, Federal and Oromia TVET bureaus and other actors, a curriculum was designed and hand overed to all regional education Bureaus in Ethiopia. The curriculum will be instrumental in training to train young people in solar installation and maintenance in the TVET sector in Ethiopia. The project makes a concerted effort to address the issues in the triangle of youth unemployment, TVET and renewable energy. Currently, ADRA Ethiopia is implementing a similar project in four Regions of Ethiopia with the funding granted from BMZ via ADRA Germany.
